Dear Viewser,

I am the Publisher and Editor of InstantRiverside.com, and I invite you to become a part of something revolutionary. InstantRiverside.com is launching a new way of telling our stories here in the Inland Empire.

How many times have you wondered why an important news story in the I.E. wasn’t covered? Those days are gone. InstantRiverside.com is the place where you will learn about our stories here at home. You can choose from an overwhelming number of websites, TV and radio stations, newspapers and magazines that try to explain the whole world to you. At InstantRiverside.com, our job is different and, we think, just as important: we cover the Inland Empire.

We cover it comprehensively, because the news that’s closest to home is the news that matters most.

We cover it proudly, because we live, work, play and raise our families here: we’re Riversiders, too, and we have a stake in the present and future of this community.

And we cover it collaboratively—with you. Let me explain what I mean.

Did you notice that this letter is addressed, “Dear Viewser?”

That term—Viewser—is a combination of the word that describes someone who watches TV—“viewer”—and the word that describes someone who connects to the internet via a computer—“user.” I am using this word because I believe it best describes the person at the heart of InstantRiverside.com: you.

I know Riversiders—I was born here. I know that nobody knows our stories better than Riversiders. The explosion of new technologies—camera and video cell phones—and the debut of InstantRiverside.com have created an opportunity for us to change the way news is covered where we live.

InstantRiverside.com combines the immediacy and impact of TV news with the ability of the internet to instantly transfer information in two directions between you and our team. When we cover a story, you always have the opportunity help shape that coverage.

You don’t have to sign up for anything. All you have to do is log on each day. As you keep yourself informed on news about Riversiders and our neighbors, I’m guessing that there will be a few times when you have details about a story we are covering—Intelligent Information that expands our coverage and makes the story more meaningful to Riversiders. Or you may happen upon something we don’t know about, or story that deserves our attention.

You can share your information in an e-mail, a photo, video you shoot with your camcorder or your cell phone—or by making an old-fashioned phone call to us here—we’d love to talk with you. You can reach InstantRiverside.com 24/7/365 by email at info@instantriverside.com, or by calling us at 951-684-9054.

You, as an InstantRiverside.com Viewser, will help build one of the largest news teams ever focused on the Inland Empire. That’s what we mean when we say that InstantRiverside.com is news about Riversiders and their neighbors by Riversiders and their neighbors. And that’s why I hope you’ll become an active Viewser and join us every day at InstantRiverside.com.

A little more than a year a ago, I realized that we no longer need a TV transmitter to deliver news and information for people to watch and hear. I learned this obvious fact thanks to my father. I was showing him the incredible power of the internet. (The most advanced computer he ever used was a calculator, and later a cell phone.) We were on my desktop machine, hooked-up to this incredible technology known as DSL. He didn’t get it. All he knew is that with a simple mouse-click he was able to stream video, and learn new things. His comment—”you really don’t need a television transmitter anymore”—really stuck with me.

Here we are today. InstantRiverside.com is a reality.

Click it. Read it. Watch it. When you visit InstantRiverside.com, you get to decide what’s important. You might visit for a quick-read of our “Instant Headlines.” When you have time, our “Instant I. E. Newsroom” brings you the important stories that need to be told with video—the stories you’ll want to watch. And we always want to know what you know. Nobody knows Riverside better than Riversiders.

Our goal is to provide Instant Intelligent Information. It is the future of news reporting. For the first time, a news organization is building its coverage around how you, the Viewser, click, read, watch—and help tell—our stories. It’s Internet News That Interconnects the Inland Empire.

Make it a Most Excellent Day!
