Doris Tapert
Doris Tapert born in Queen of Angeles August 20, 1933. Lived throughout Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City her whole life. Doris attended a semester of Registered Nursing school, when she met a young Army Soldier , left Nursing school, married him and had Beth Ann.
Doris’s then husband was shipped out, leaving Doris to raise Beth Ann. Doris attended and finished Secretary school. Her Uncle George and her step-father Bethel Gifford introduced Doris to Edwin “Lil” Eddie, in 1955 and the two were married July 20, 1956. They brought into their marriage two children Bruce Tapert age 6 years old, and Beth Ann Combs age 4 years old. Together Edwin Tapert and Doris Tapert had three more children, Judith, Kenneth and Richard Tapert, making their total five children.
Doris was an active full time member of the La Puente-West Covina Ward 2nd, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. She was known for her loving compassion and support, and joy of the outdoors. She taught many of the young women each summer how to back-pack and camp.
Doris was extremely busy with her church holding many positions throughout the years. It was never a second thought for Doris when a sister called out for her help, at any hour. She worked hard at getting her children together, and loved becoming a grand-mother. Holidays were her dream come true, as she planned each one, coordinated each child’s activity and re-enacted the Christmas Story. Once her children grew and had their own children, they joyfully passed on their roles to their own children.
Doris planned every year to celebrate her loving Sisters of the church with opening her family cabin, each first week of October, just so the women could celebrate their church faith, and Sisterhood. This would last for some 20 plus years, and only stopped due to aging, health and passing of so many of the Sisters she so fondly loved.
Doris leaves behind her husband of 56 years, Edwin William Tapert, and their children: Bruce Edwin Tapert, wife Ginger Tapert, Carrie Silva and husband Donavan, and great grandchildren: Tanner 13, Kai 11, Blake 8 months, Beth Ann Combs and husband Chuck and grandson Scott Clark, Judith A. Sherry, husband Frank, granddaughter Carla Venzor, great-grandchildren Michael and Devon, Kenneth W. Tapert, wife Debbie, grandchildren Emily, Bryan, Lacey, Holly, Kenny, Richard L. Tapert, wife Pamela, grandchildren Dennis, Jason and Tressa; along with great-grandchildren Clark and Gwynyth.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 12PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1307 South Orange Ave, West Covina, CA 91790.
