Dorothy Smittle passed away June 10, 2012 in Riverside, CA at the age of 95 years. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio to Spurgeon and Stella (Burke) Vanhoose.

A long time Riverside resident since 1946. Mrs. Smittle married W. David Smittle in 1936 and they raised 3 daughters. Dorothy was a member of Magnolia Center Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, sewing, cooking and baking.

She is survived by her loving daughters Donna Slezak of Riverside, Sandra (Gary) Korn of McKinleyville, CA and Dolores (Mark) Wilson of Riverside.

Devoted grandmother to 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Dear sister of Spurgeon Vanhoose, Jr. of MO, and Betty Townsend of Riverside.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband W. David Smittle of 69 years in 2005, her brothers Robert and Walter Vanhoos.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 2:00 PM in Akes Family’s “Chapel Of the Chimes”. She will be at rest in Crestlawn Memorial Park with her husband. The family wishes to thank VNA Hospice, Kim Barnet, CNA and friends at Magnolia Village for their help and support during this time.
