Rap impresario Jay-Z (pictured), Britain’s Muse and the animated project Gorillaz will headline the 2010 edition of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio on April 16-18.
Radiohead singer Thom Yorke, LCD Soundsystem, Faith No More, Tiesto, Vampire Weekend, the Specials, MGMT, Phoenix and Orbital are among the other major players on the eclectic indie-rock/dance bill that ranges from a former member of the Sex Pistols to filmmaker John Waters to “Yo Gabba Gabba’s” DJ Lance Rock.
While the headliners are more current than Coachella’s recent trend towards Baby-Boom favorites (including Paul McCartney and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters), there will still be a number of reunions and veteran acts, including an expected get-together by Pavement — which broke up shortly after its 1999 festival slot. Them Crooked Vultures (featuring Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones with Coachella veterans Dave Grohl and desert local Josh Homme), Echo and the Bunnymen, Grace Jones, a reunited Public Image Ltd. (lead by ex-Pistol John Lydon), Devo, Sly and the Family Stone, Gary Newman and ska’s the Specials will also be on the bill.
The full day-by-day lineup appears below. (The question marks after Yorke’s (pictured) name are the way he bills himself as a solo performer.)
More than 150,000 attended Coachella’s 10th edition last year, with McCartney as the main headliner.
For the first time in the festival’s history, advance tickets for the 2010 event went on sale before the lineup was announced. Traditional ticket sales — including three-day passes and layaway packages — start Friday at 10 a.m. Weekend passes are $269; VIP packages are $339. Car/tent and RV camping tickets will also be available.
Another Coachella first — concertgoers will be able to leave and re-enter the festival grounds.
