Cathedral City and the California State Senate District 40 election
The clock is ticking, and as of Friday over 7,000 people have sent their mail-ballots, according to the Riverside County Registrar of Voters.
At stake is a who will serve as the next California State Senator representing the new 40th District. It was recently redrawn resulting in a special election.
This special election includes a write-in candidate. Craig Fiegener entered the contest, after covering the region as a TV News reporter for over 25 years.
The candidacy puts Fiegener against an Assemblyman who won election in November, and is already seeking higher office.
Other candidates on the ballot, like Fiegener, have not previously held political office.
The election will be held on March 12. It includes Thousand Palms, Cathedral City, Blythe, Indio, Coachella and Mecca. It also includes a portion of San Diego County and Imperial County.
